Honey sesame chicken

Honey sesame chicken

As always with recipes I like to keep the intro short and sweet. Whenever I am craving sesame chicken takeout this is my go to recipe so enjoy (:

Serves 2

Ingredients:

How the chicken should look post frying

The sauce is ready for the chicken when it thickens up and bubbles

Instructions:

  1. Cut chicken into bite size pieces
  2. Mix together flour, 1/4 cup cornstarch, baking powder, and baking soda
  3. Whisk the egg white until foamy and then add to dry mixture with 1/2 cup ice cold water
  4. Stir mixture until smooth batter forms
  5. Drop chicken into batter
  6. Heat oil at medium high for frying in a deep yet small saucepan to avoid the need for excess oil
  7. When oil seems ready, place one drop of batter in, if it sizzles and floats oil is hot enough, if not wait and repeat
  8. In batches fry chicken until golden, be careful not to crowd the pan to avoid pieces sticking together
  9. Set fried chicken on paper towel to drain excess oil
  10. Once all chicken is fried, obtain a large sauté pan and add a spoonful or two of frying oil and heat on low medium
  11. In a bowl, combine honey, 1/3 cup water, rice vinegar, ketchup, sesame oil, salt and garlic powder; stir
  12. Mix 1 tablespoon cornstarch with a little cold water and once completely mixed add to bowl with honey mixture
  13. Add honey mixture to pan and let reduce for about 5 minutes until thick
  14. Toss chicken in pan with honey mixture
  15. Sprinkle in sesame seeds
  16. Make sure chicken gets completely coated and let cook on low for 5 more minutes
  17. Serve with rice and/or broccoli and top chicken with green onions and more sesame seeds to taste
  18. Enjoy ❤

Note: While you can make extra, I find that anything fried is never as good the next day so I recommend eating day of making
